Immortal city: new ideas and old souls in architecture

2018 12 13

Many times, it is difficult to escape the preference for architecture. New ideas and old souls are intertwined among them. Architecture constitutes the most basic element of a city. It has survived through the centuries and dynasties, accompanied by it. In Dresden, buildings and cities have always been there, whether it is destroyed, rebuilt, renovated or old. This city seems to have always had magical powers that can continue the immortality and eternal classics.

For Dresden, how many languages can not express their love for it, not just because there are our esteemed partners here–  Deutsche Werkstätten, a century-old decoration company founded in 1898, more from the city itself: it has gone through storms but still touching history, it precipitates years and charming art, it retains the classic and innovative technology, its Elbe River, its immortality and its constant inspiration.

Because of the destruction of war, Dresden can be said to be a city rebuilt on the ruins, but you can be surprised to find that in Dresden, "old" is not a deliberate, but a real restoration, "new" is not a violation, but a kind of integration. I think this is probably the belief in creativity. And architecture often reflects the power of faith.

Every year at the end of August and the beginning of September, Germany's major organizations, associations and enterprises will have their most important day - The summer festival. some like China's annual meeting, employees, partners, invited guests gather together for a wonderful evening. But unlike the annual meeting of China, there are no tedious speeches, complicated links, exciting awarding ceremonies, and more professional industry exchanges, relaxed gatherings of old friends and toasting big parties.

In September of this year, we also had the privilege of attending Dresden's grandest architectural celebration, the “Summer Festival of Architecture” sponsored by the German Construction Industry Association. This summer festival is not only a grand occasion for German architects and designers, but also a celebration of the reopening of the Dresden Cultural Palace in Germany. The immortal spirit brought about by architecture gives us a deeper understanding of Dresden.

Under the ingenuity of Germany's number one and the world's fifth-ranking architectural firm, the Dresden Cultural Palace has been reborn, and its reconstruction breaks the limits of the original architectural means, in "recognition" and "functionality"a new consideration is made.

As a classic of modernism built in the 1969 Democratic Germany period, during the reconstruction, the architectural appearance of the Palace of Culture was all loyal to the original works, and bold breakthroughs were made inside, creating a new spatial organization and moving line.

Located in the central position between the old market, the palace area and the new market in Dresden, the Dresden Cultural Palace has an irreproducible core position. After reconstruction, it responds to the three important places around it by means of three-sided entrances and exits. At the same time in order to meet the needs of different groups, in the revival of the old building, culture, education and entertainment functions are intertwined, which injected fresh blood.

The concert hall is located in the core part of the whole building. All the designs are based on respect and understanding of the old building itself, but it is not simply a form of obedience, but an innovative dialogue based on respect. The concert hall is very similar to a "vineyard" with seats arranged in a polygonal staircase.

Fifty-five pipe organ bolts constitute the unique sound presentation system of the concert hall, especially suitable for performing classical symphonies of the 19th and 20th centuries. Warm wood color corresponds to the white wall, forming a harmonious color relationship, in which the perfect combination of reverberation and space is felt, and the ultimate pursuit of vision and hearing is valued and reflected in the design.

When you face this weather-beaten building, you can truly realize that the war only destroys the appearance, but the spirit inside is indestructible forever.
